Do you want to redecorate your child’s room but are worried about money? It can be annoying to look at cute decorations on websites and then flinch at the expense. It is important to remember that children do not care about the cost. They care whether they like it or not.
Keep that in mind, and decorating your child’s room on a budget won’t be too difficult. You don’t have to forget about security, convenience, or functionality, but you won’t have to break the bank.

Make a plan
Make sure you keep your design goals in mind. You need to buy new things to transform the space, but don’t get carried away. Children’s rooms offer an opportunity to do wild and different things. It is tempting to go wild.
Only buy what is really necessary and know how you are going to use it before you bring it home. Go to the store with a plan.

Carpeting
One fun thing is to use old carpet pieces from carpets that you no longer use (some stores even sell pieces) to make carpets with a small area. The patchwork look is really fun and can be very colorful. If you think security is an issue, these rugs can be taped to the floor to make sure they don’t slip.

New colors can completely change the room. As children get older, their sense of style – and often their favorite color – change. By changing the color of the walls, you can transform your old room into a completely new one.
Fun with stickers
Another way to decorate your child’s room on a budget is to add wallpaper collages or wall decals. Wallpaper is back in fashion, but it can be expensive to use extensively. Create collages of pieces to add a touch of life to a wall or even a closet door.

Individual rolls of end-of-run danglers can be purchased at great prices, and sometimes you can even find wallpaper sample books that are no longer available.
Wall tattoos are a huge hit with children. The bigger the better. They can add real drama to a room. There are many pre-made designs available, but many companies print custom designs for a small additional charge. Most of these decals are removable and will not leave any residue.

Some are even reusable. Keep in mind that they don’t work very well on textured surfaces. So be sure to place it against a smooth wall or maybe even a door.

Move the furniture
If you want to try a completely new look for free, just rearrange the space. It can be surprising what a difference even a small shift can make. Move the bed to another wall or turn it differently and the room can feel completely different and new.

Give new life to old furniture
Try renovating a vintage rocking chair or old dresser rather than buying a new bedroom. Old kids room parts can be reupholstered or painted to fit into your child’s new room. They can keep doing this as they get older or even move.

A box or table can be spray painted in a new color to be used elsewhere. You can also add a pop of color by painting parts of old furniture. Just paint the back of a bookcase in a color that stands out.

It can turn a simple, old piece of furniture into something fun and new. This saves money on painting so you don’t have to repaint the whole piece. You could even use some leftover paint from that room or other projects.
Window decor
Windows are often a standout feature in children’s rooms. Freshen up the decor with a scarf or a loose swag flounce. This is really just a long piece of fabric wrapped around a pole or pulled through sidelights. It’s a simple and inexpensive window treatment that can make a huge contribution to a room.

DIY art
Create a personalized, handmade cell phone. You can make it from all kinds of simple, common and cheap materials. Use a simple quilting tape, fishing wire, or cloth, or you can get even more creative and cut shapes out of cardboard.
There’s a lot of room for personalization so you can break away from the usual birds, butterflies, and shapes you see in off-the-shelf phones.
For some other types of simple and personal art, you can create fabric graphics. All you have to do is tack some fabric around a wooden frame and you have something that is both inexpensive and different from your usual prints and posters.

Fabric pompoms are just as simple and different. These inexpensive and easy-to-make decorations can add real pop and are easy to replace when damaged or worn out. Different sizes and tissue paper in the shade of the same color can add variety.
Bed linen
New beds can really make a difference in any room. You can keep a few sets of different colors and themes so you can quickly make changes whenever you (or your child) feel like it. This also applies to throw pillows and decorative pillows.
Make sure you choose linens that match the rest of the room or add something unique. As you can imagine, the bed is at the heart of the bedroom, and bedding can really change the look.

Educational accessories
Add some classic children’s books as decorations. Not only do they look great, they’re easy to find and pretty cheap too. Who knows, it might just encourage a love of reading. Put up cheap wall shelves and display your kid’s favorites. You can add a bit of color by spraying the shelves.
