Interior design showcase of the living room with a fireplace

The first thing you notice in a room is called the focal point. It’s like the main attraction and every other part in the room is there to enhance it. If you have a fireplace, you’re already there – it’s a built-in focal point. It is, so to speak, a centerpiece; One that opens up a world of design possibilities for you. The interior of the living room with a fireplace leaves many options open. Fireplaces make any room fabulous as they are beautiful and decorative.

The style of your fireplace will have a lot to say about how the rest of the room is designed. Is it a built-in fireplace or is it freestanding? Is the edging made of wood, stone, brick or cement? The surround can be changed to create a look that you like and there are many options to choose from.

There are 3 different types of fireplaces that can burn different fuels such as wood or pellets, or use gas or electricity. The three types of chimneys are:

Wall mounting: The most common type of fireplace is wall mounting or the built-in fireplace. It usually has a surround and jacket and is connected to a chimney. This type of fireplace can be modified to burn wood or to use gas or electricity. Some homes already have fireplaces, but if not, you can have one installed.

Freestanding: Freestanding fireplaces are basically wood-burning stoves with glass fronts so you can see the flames. This type of fireplace requires little installation other than a pipe connecting it to the chimney or an outside wall to allow the smoke to escape. They’re typically smaller than wall types, making them great for smaller rooms and condos.

They can burn wood or run on gas or electricity. Freestanding fireplaces usually have no bezels or jackets.

Portable: The portable fireplace is smaller than the others and is a great choice for apartments as it does not require installation as it is not attached to a chimney.

Most are lit with some sort of yellow fuel and are used for decorative rather than warmth. They can be floor models or even hung from the ceiling. They are a great option for small rooms and apartments where home improvement is not allowed.

When doing a living room interior design project, consider adding a fireplace to instantly enhance its beauty!
