The experience will be fun, but it is always better to be prepared for any challenges that may arise. This is why we encourage you to read our guide on how to buy a headboard:
Take a close look at your bedroom

What does your bedroom need, or better yet – what could it take on without looking crowded? The first step is to calculate space and height, and the second is to consider architectural features that could be affected by your new headboard.
Of course, the headboard must generally be proportional to the space. For example, a spacious room with high and vaulted ceilings with large anchors and solid wooden headboards will look fantastic, while smaller rooms with flat headboards that are seamlessly attached to the wall will look a lot better.
If the bed is positioned against recessed windows, it could use an open metal headboard that reflects light and keeps the room light and airy.
Choose the right material

Chic headboards come in all sorts of materials, so you can easily find one that fits the overall style of your bedroom or your wood, metal, leather, vinyl, rattan or similar furniture and accessories. However, matching headboards to furniture is not the main priority.
What really should fall within the scope of your duties is comfort and durability. You should pay special attention to these when using your bed to read or watch TV.
Wood is a classic choice for a headboard, especially if the headboard itself is carved. The wood can be both stained and painted. Another timeless choice is metal, either one fantastically adorned with twists and curls, or a simple iron / brass plate.
Lately, people are also opting for bamboo, wicker, and upholstery (upholstery is the best option in terms of comfort whether it’s buttoned or tufted). A popular choice is definitely a padded headboard with fabric buttons that are evenly spaced and supposedly have a plaid look.

You have already worked on inspiring a romantic look in your bedroom and you have probably invested a significant amount in making it as light, airy and colorful as you want it to be.
You don’t have to neglect these efforts: if you are opting for a refined and elegant bedroom, upholstered headboards are the perfect choice. On the flip side, bold and masculine lines look great with wood, reach leather and every other sled headboard.
His majesty: functionality

Headboards have to be beautiful, we agree. However, the main purpose of a headboard is to be functional. Everyone likes to sit in their beds, read or check their phones, and that makes the headboard a backrest more than anything.
The more comfortable, the better! When the headboard is attached to the bed, it means it’s safe to lean against and at the same time is much better than the cold walls or headboards that create awkward gaps for your pillows to “swallow”.

There are even headboards with special features, like a shelf to store your books or alarm clocks, or a top edge to hold your reading glasses. Sometimes the headboard is so high that it has a raised side post from which to hang dressing gowns and bathrobes.
The most advanced headboards are those with built-in lights and electrical plugs that allow you to conveniently charge your phone.
Choose according to your size

This is essential if you are using a bed with the headboard attached to a canopy. Tall people obviously need taller headboards while that should be lower for your kids. As we have already emphasized, comfort is most important.
The standard height of a headboard is 48 inches, including its legs. People with long torsos should consider euro-sized pillows and pillows on the bed, ideally higher than the headboard (at least 55 inches).
Think about how you will use the headboard to determine the correct height of your headboard. Measure the distance between the floor and the mattress and then the length of your own torso. Put the numbers together and look for a headboard that is slightly higher (take into account the legs in total length).
Use your creativity

You don’t have to make traditional metal / wood choices or follow the trend for upholstered headboards. You can get creative and choose a unique headboard that everyone would admire. It can be a personal framed picture that slides behind the bed, a flat sticker, wall art, or even repurposed wooden doors.
You can even ask your children to come up with an original solution for their own beds. Whatever you choose, make sure it gets attention and makes you feel more comfortable while resting in your bed.
Decide on the size

The size of your headboard can have an incredible impact on the entire bedroom. Oversized headboards appear dominant and powerful and often occupy a central position in an elegant and modern bedroom.
Small ones, on the other hand, have minimal appearance, but that doesn’t make them any less crucial to your bedroom’s personality.
Something that fits the space

To make the decision easier, consider the furniture you already have. With plenty of upholstery, you should probably opt for a wooden headboard or even tight leather.
In the opposite case, if furniture is made of wood, the headboards should be “softer” (linen, cotton or a similar, durable fabric).
Attached and detached headboards

The reason you’re already looking for a nice headboard is because your bed doesn’t have a bed. If you buy the bed yourself, choose one that doesn’t have a headboard attached.
This means that you are free to choose which ones you like, filled in a certain way, or just customize the colors of the wall. Needless to say, a detached headboard is a part that you can change at any time, which means that you will renew the look of your room multiple times.
shop

Before visiting local shops and markets, check out what retailers are offering online. This is a good tactic for developing a schema, or at least getting an idea of what to look for.
Going from store to store to compare is a terrible waste of time, especially when you consider that almost every retailer these days insists on increasing their online presence. The same is likely true of your preferred retailer.
