types of art deco lamps

Art deco lamps are multifunctional luminaires that are works of art, decorative and functional, all at the same time. Few luminaires in a home or any other space make a statement about the owner of the house as art deco lamps.

Origin

Art deco lamps follow the Art Deco movement’s style in art and design before the First World War in France. The Art Deco style had its heyday in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. After World War II, its popularity declined. This style embraced vibrant colors, detailed embellishments and bold and symmetrical geometric patterns. Technically, it was a fusion of traditional art and new age mechanical engineering.

Art deco lamps in modern times

Art deco lamps are still in demand even under 21st century because of their enduring aesthetic appeal and timeless elegance. Art deco lamps available today are both antique lamps from the early 20sth century, as well as modern counterparts to them. These lamps use soft and warm colors to balance light and shadow and to highlight the art in them, which are mainly animal or stylized human motifs.

Art deco ceiling lights

Art deco ceiling luminaires that are streamlined and bright, are used today in classically slanted interiors. These eye-catching luminaires are made of chrome, copper, nickel wood, alabaster, marble, bronze or glass. But even in living spaces that are designed in a modern, contemporary style, art deco lamps are used that are innovative and futuristic. Some are functional enough to be used in the bathroom.

Art deco table and floor lamps

Art deco table and floor lamps tend to be more stylized and artistically appealing than ceiling luminaires. Both art deco table and floor lamps have strong bases and have symmetrical patterns. Another feature of these lamps is the sculpture that is usually found on them. They are usually naked or other motifs from humans or animals, but emphasis is always placed on geometric patterns. The sculptures are usually made of marble or alabaster. There are also engravings on most art deco table and floor lamps.

Art deco sconces

Another type of art deco lamp is the lamps which are lamps attached to the walls. Because art deco lamps are sometimes heavy, an important consideration is whether the wall is strong enough to support the light of the lamp. If the right type is installed, it gives an ambient light that is very different from the art deco lamp and the art / deco table lamp.
