I mount a picture ledge to display seasonal prints, the matting of pictures ornaments, a small gingerbread house. I have asymmetric garlands around the television to lighten the edges without covering the ventilation or access points. An enormous mirror facing a window will triple the ambient light and a band of thin sconces in pairs will be used as vertical highlight. When there is a wall at the back of the couch, I would centrally place a wreath over the couch and also beside it two thinner pieces of artwork in order to shape the sitting.
I believe that the decorations in walls should be permanent and not transitional. My store of color is low key – i.e.: red and gold around the coffee tables space, blue touches by window, and a neutral wreath over the couch. Small projects such as paper star bursts or cloth banners are not heavy, can be placed on by renters, and can be largest. Classic details reflect upon walls, as they appear in eye level and they do not overcrowd walls.
I would also provide a small wall shelf below the wreath to receive cards and candles and low profile cable channel to ensure lighting is not cluttered. When the space permits it, a pinboard with a cloth-covered outline is a seasonal receipt-board (with recipes and gift labels).
